Wild pheasant hunting is a way of life on the Authier Ranch.
WOW! What a year 2008 was. More PHEASANTS than ever. The PHEASANT populations are at an all-time high. Our new facilities were a huge success and the prospects for another bumper crop of pheasants appear great.
We will start the 1st part of September and conclude the season by mid-December.
LOCATED 30 miles South of Pierre near the junction on U.S. 83 and Interstate 90. From Vivian, proceed North ½ mile, then East 2 miles, then South ½ mile.
We are not a game farm. In addition to our own land, we reserved hunting rights on over 4,000 acres, increasing our total hunting area to nearly 10,000 acres of farm and ranch land.
In 2006, we will start the 1st part of September and conclude the season in mid-December. We will also keep the limit at four cocks per day.
Facilities -
Our hunters will be accommodated at our ranch. We feature:
- Seven bedroom modernized farmhouse.

The barn serves as a wonderful facility with five – bedrooms on the ground level and a bar and recreation area on the second level. The barn also has a large deck on the South side with trap shooting capabilities. This addition to the hunting operation has complemented our modern, eight – bedroom farmhouse. The “Barn” has provided greater flexibility in accommodating and entertaining hunting parties.

Here at Dakota Sportsman and East River Guide Service I have enjoyed the great outdoors and have been hunting and fishing most of my life. I spend a great deal of time on the water as a professional guide, in tournament fisherman or just pleasure fishing. I am also involved with, and encourage children's fishing programs.
I participate in outdoor shows, promoting fishing and the equipment needed for a successful outing. I also enjoy building custom rods and repairing all types of rods for clients.
In the fall of the year, I spend an equal amount of time in the field as a professional guide for pheasant or waterfowl hunting. Like fishing, I am also in the fields for my own pleasure at times.

Pheasant Hunting
The pheasants are wild and plentiful at Backcountry Outfitters. We have strips of Sorghum and corn setup specifically for the birds.
We have over 3000 acres for small, medium or the large size pheasant hunting groups. The birds are wild out here in Gregory South Dakota, so make sure you are ready to shoot, because the shots will be tough!
Scenery
The pheasant hunting at buffalo butte is surreal. From the moment you turn off of the paved road to the ranch, the Buttes in the backdrop make for a beautiful sunrise & sunset. Listen to the roosters cackle as you have a cup of coffee on the porch of the Chalets or as sunset rolls around.

Warm up before your pheasant hunt at the sporting clays station between the scenic buttes. We offer shells and sporting clays with your pheasant hunting package.
Target Range
For the prairie dog hunters or pheasant hunting groups who bring their rifles, we have a shooting range with 50, 100 & 200 yard targets to sight in rifles and a concrete bench. The range is directly behind the main lodge.

Waterfowl Hunting
At Glacial Lakes Hunting Resort you'll find a group of guys who are hardcore goose and duck hunters. We choose to live and breath South Dakota air because hunting is our passion.
South Dakota waterfowl hunting is excellent, fast-paced and of course, lots of fun. Trap Shooting
